Past, Present and Future with Aseye Studio

5 years may seem like long to some, but for New York based sportswear brand Aseye Studio it is only just the beautiful beginning. Friends and family of the brand popped out to an interactive gallery and open studio session - complete with live portrait sketches, screen printing and an up close look at the brand’s history and archives.

We spoke with designer and CEO Asia Irving to discuss past, present and future - from inspirations and family legacy, to what this milestone means and where the future of Aseye Studio is heading.

JEWELIE: First of all Asia, congrats! Five years is a big deal. I'd like to ask just for the people who don't know, tell us about Aseye, where was your inspiration from?

ASIA: Aseye Studio was founded in 2021, it's my baby. My other baby cause I do have my son, but the inspiration lies from family, legacy, vintage aesthetics - things that make up who I am and my life story.

JEWELIE: And so we see that there's a lot of, I would say sportswear kind of aesthetic and vintage aesthetic inspired. Where does that come from and what does that mean to you personally?

ASIA: So I come from a family of sports. I did dance when I was younger but I've also been around the basketball world, just going to different basketball games through my brother and father. So I've always been around it and was always inspired by going to the game but not actually having something cute to wear. So I wanted to kind of fill that space where you know, you have stuff to wear to games but it's not your usual you know basic tee or basic pink tee that everyone does.

JEWELIE: A bit elevated, yeah.

ASIA: Very elevated. And that's where the inspiration comes from.

JEWELIE: It's giving that. It's giving modern as well.

ASIA: Yes!

JEWELIE: And even with that - like moving forward in the future, especially this being the five year anniversary, where do you see kind of the vision of the brand going and where would you ideally wanna be in maybe like the next five years?

ASIA: So in the next five years I definitely wanna be in a couple of retail stores, more independent boutiques and independently led. I definitely see the brand growing beyond. You know, I wanna do sponsorships with schools and different teams. And not just different basketball and football teams but different types of sports. I want to be able to create that uniform for them and then the next five years, I see us maybe being a bit more international. We've done a lot of national pop ups, but I feel like we have yet to expand internationally. So that's definitely one of my biggest goals.

JEWELIE: Yes, tapping into that international market I feel like you kind of connect with people and then also become just more worldly. Like globally.

ASIA: Yes!

JEWELIE: Extra bonus question for you, we're all about manifestation and speaking our dreams into existence at The Crown Jewel. We saw Kyrie Irving here earlier today, who else ideally would you want to dress or wear that you haven't worked with before?

ASIA: Miss Rihanna of course!

JEWELIE: The Queen!

ASIA: Yes! Tyla. Zendaya, you know a lot of the young upcoming talent I would love in Aseye.

JEWELIE: Yes! Well we can't wait to see it!

ASIA: Thank you!

JEWELIE: Thank you for speaking with us!

ASIA: Thank you for coming!
